# First Canadian ALS Patient Receives Neuralink BCI Using New Surgical Robot

Vancouver police sergeant Lee Marten became the first Canadian ALS patient to receive Neuralink's brain-computer implant and the first patient worldwide to undergo the procedure with a new experimental surgical robot that inserts electrode threads directly through the dura, eliminating the need to remove it. Marten is the 26th person globally to receive a Neuralink implant, with surgery performed at Toronto Western Hospital under the CAN-PRIME study.
